ANOTHER HEALING MIRACLE - POLYCYTHEMIA VERA
When Tammy Pockrandt-Sanford first visited Genesis Worship Center in November 2009, she had been battling with a rare blood condition called Polycythemia Vera.
She was first diagnosed with this disease in February 2006 when she had to be hospitalized due to poor health conditions (Photo 1). A bone marrow biopsy and blood tests revealed increased counts of red and white cells and platelets (Photo 2). Mutation in the Jak2 gene was also confirmed – which is often associated with the disease. Between 2006 and 2008, Tammy visited several Medical Centers which confirmed the diagnosis; in 2008 she started therapy with the anti-cancer drug hydroxyurea (aiming to suppress production of red blood cells and platelets). In spite of the treatment, Tammy’s blood counts were still very abnormal as revealed by her blood analysis in March 2008.
After Tammy joined our Church, Pastor Danny DiAngelo prayed for her blood condition. Tammy started noticing that her blood cell counts were dropping fast, in spite of her reducing the doses of hydroxyurea. In June 2010 she stopped the treatment completely, but the cell counts remained low. Her doctors could not understand the results of her tests – they stated that “…for some UNKNOWN reason, Tammy’s Polycythemia Vera ‘changed’”. Her last blood test, last March 2011 showed that ALL her values are back to normal (Photo 3)! Praise the Lord for His Healing!

Polycythemia Vera is a disorder of the bone marrow which leads to an abnormal increase in the number of blood cells (primarily red blood cells, but also white cells and platelets) produced by the bone marrow. Symptoms include general feeling of un-wellness, headache, fatigue, dizziness, breathing difficulties due to the increased thickness of the blood. Although the disease develops slowly, there is no real cure for it. Without treatment, about half of the people who have polycythemia vera with symptoms die in less than 2 years. With treatment, they live an average of 15 to 20 years. Treatments of phlebotomy (removal of large amount of blood) and hydroxyurea, aim to keep the blood volume low and avoid complications such as acute myelogenous leukemia (abnormal growth of bone marrow cells) and myelofibrosis (scarring) of the bone marrow.
